Ghana will assume the presidency of the UN Security Council on November 1

Ghana will assume the presidency of the United Nations (UN) Security Council on Tuesday, November 1, marking a historic moment in the country’s two-year tenure on the Security Council.
The significance of Ghana presiding over the affairs of the Council for the month of November stems from the fact that the UN Security Council is the principal body for the maintenance and promotion of international peace and security.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in a press release, copied to the Ghana News Agency, outlined some of the November programs of activities towards Ghana’s UN Security Chairmanship.

On Tuesday, November 1, at 4:30 p.m., there will be a press conference by Mr. Harold Adlai Agyeman, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Ghana to the United Nations in New York, for the United Nations press agencies.

On the same day at 19:00, Mr Agyeman would also brief the wider UN membership on Ghana’s work program and priorities for the month.

The statement said on Thursday, November 3, there will be an open ministerial debate chaired by Mrs. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration on “Integrating Effective Resilience Building in Peacekeeping Operations for Sustainable Peace” from 1400hrs to 1700hrs hours and 1900 hours to 2200 hours in the meeting room of the UN Security Council.

On Thursday, November 10, from 14:00 to 17:00, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will chair a debate at the level of heads of state on “Counter-terrorism in Africa: an imperative for peace, security and development”.

The report states that the Permanent Mission of Ghana to the United Nations in New York has informed that UNTV is distributing meeting and briefing resources through optical outgoing lines through two companies, “Encompass” and “IDB-The Switch”.

She stated that UNTV also covers all press conference briefings and is always assigned to the outgoing line “Encompass 4025” as well as Switch UNN TV.
It noted that UNTV, however, does not include UN Security Council summary briefings for member states, but WebTV does.

She said that media houses not included in the UNTV daily plan client list can email redi@un.org to enable them to receive the daily news plan to find out which outgoing lines of UNSC press conferences, briefings, demarcations and the UNSC. meetings will be broadcast on the day.

Ghana, in its capacity as President of the UN Security Council, hopes to build consensus in the Council and in the UN on the need to ensure that peacekeeping operations, including kinetic and non-kinetic interventions, take into account the changing security environment. by fully addressing the root causes and drivers of conflict associated with rising youth populations, poverty, climate change and the absence of resilient institutions.
