Black Sherif gets a BET nomination. Music sensation, Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong popularly known as Black Sherif has achieved another massive feat.
The artist, who rose to prominence with his critically acclaimed street anthem songs First and Second Sermon, has just been nominated at the 2022 Black Entertainment Television (BET Hip Hop Awards) for Best International Flow along with other acts.
From Konong in the Ashanti region of Ghana, he is the second Ghanaian to be nominated in the category. Sarkodie, one of Africa’s most decorated rappers, was the first Ghanaian to be nominated in the category which he won and gave a speech calling on the diaspora to come home as part of the 2019 Year of Return initiative which went viral. The initiative was launched by the Ghanaian government to mark the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in Jamestown, Virginia.
Black Sherif’s Second Sermon became popular and had Grammy winner Burn Boy loving and jumping on the remix of the song.
His single “Kwaku The Traveller” topped the Ghanaian and Nigerian Apple Music Charts and was the most shazamated song across all genres in August after its release in March 2022.
In June 2022, Boomplay announced the award-winning musician as the first Ghanaian artist to surpass 100 million streams on its platform.
Congratulations to Black Sherif for this latest achievement and we hope that he will once again become the second Ghanaian to win after being nominated.
Please leave your wishes for him in the comments.
